DELHI UNIVERSITY: Although DUSU election posters or stickers may not be allowed anymore on campus walls, they have conveniently made their way into college hostel rooms — even toilets.
In total disregard of DU''s code of conduct, these spots — as campaigning parties have discovered — are safe to put up posters simply because they are less prone to being checked by poll officials and college authorities.
The flip side to this is that students don''t have their privacy anymore. What with different faces peering down at them while they are engaged in more serious pursuits.
"Posters are all over the place. We keep taking them down but campaigners from different groups keep pasting them just as quickly. From the staircases to the corridors they are everywhere, including our bathrooms and toilets," said Arvind Kumar, a final year hostel student of Hindu College.
Tumul, a student of Hansraj College who stays in the hostel has a similar tale to tell. "We simply keep tearing the posters down. Neither us nor the college authorities stop to just keep away from trouble. These groups come with the local support group who are usually not students and we don''t mess with them," he added.
Interestingly, posters of female candidates seem to be quite a rage at these ‘safe'' locations. As a hostel student from Ramjas College chuckled: "Why should we have a problem with girls." Many others second his view. No wonder posters of the female candidates, irrespective of the group they are from, stay put longer.
Rajiv Khanna, DU''s chief election officer, when quizzed on this new campaign tool devised by student groups said: "Now that you have told us, we will look into it."
